Imagine an entire school – students, teachers, and administrators – taking time each morning to turn inward together, and listen to a brief mindfulness prompt and world-class music.
The Well's programs combine best practices in arts and wellness and are designed in partnership with those they serve.
The Wonder Commission is a new music commission of The Well, composed by Dr. Brian Raphael Nabors and performed by the Antigone Music Collective. Inspiration for the new music emerges from Nabors' conversation with writer, physicist, and professor at MIT, Alan Lightman. The music also integrates the voices of youth from UpSpring Summer 360 camp for unhoused youth reading their questions about science, wonder, and hope.
The new music, documentary by Asa Featherstone IV, 15 Mindful Music Moments journeys, and a special guided meditation are now available online, and premiered in Mindful Music Moments schools nationwide on October 7, 2024.

The commission began with an evening of conversation, music, and wonder with panelists Alan Lightman and Dr. Brian Raphael Nabors, with live music played by The Antigone Music Collective and introductions by astronomer Dean Regas and retired neurosurgeon Dr. John Tew.
While Brian composed, we created two special workbooks of activities inspired by space and nature. With those workbooks, we visited with unhoused youth at UpSpring's Summer 360 camps in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. We practiced different movement exercises inspired by space, learned about sound and music, and recorded their voices reciting their ideas about space and wonder to be integrated into the new music.

With three movements composed, we recorded with Antigone Music Collective featuring Amelia Korbitz on violin and Liam Battle on cello. With audio engineer support from Phil Cotter.

In 2024, The Well created a workbook centered around the theme of wonder and the universe. The workbook was to be used as a guide to take students on a journey of discovery through our galaxy as they ponder life’s questions using art, science, and movement.
As "Wonder" premieres in our 200+ Mindful Music Moments schools in October 2024, we carried the music over into movement and creative activities with two schools– Reading and Wilson Elementary in Cincinnati.
The Wonder Commission music had a beautiful reprise with the live premiere of "Wonder" at a concert of world premieres, performed by Antigone Music Collective.

January 2025, The Well brought this workbook to Cambodia and partnered with The Harpswell Foundation, a foundation dedicated to empowering young women in Southeast Asia by providing access to higher education and a supportive community. Two mindfulness sessions were held for about 70 young women residing in the Harpswell dormitories. Through these sessions, the women reflected on themes of wonder and curiosity, exploring the potential of their futures and the possibilities available to them
