Pre-Concert Community Art Workshop for Alma Latina
Led by artist Julia O. Bianco
When: January 25, 2026 | 7:00-8:00 PM
Where: The Well / A Mindful Moment, 2454 Gilbert Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45206
Cost: Free (registration encouraged)
Alma Latina (English: Latin Soul) is a Spanish-language-first concert by concertnova, curated by Mexican-American cellist Nicholas Mariscal. Presented at ARCO on February 22, the program brings together music by Latin American composers with stories drawn from the lived experiences of Cincinnati’s immigrant communities. The concert celebrates Latino and Hispanic heritage not only through its repertoire, but through the cultural memory, resilience, and human connection carried within the music itself.
In advance of the concert, concertnova invites community members to contribute to the visual environment of Alma Latina through a free, hands-on art workshop led by Julia O. Bianco, an Argentinian immigrant artist living and working in Cincinnati.
Participants will create paper butterflies and chains of solidarity (linked paper strips bearing messages of hope, care, and connection). Butterflies, migratory by nature, echo themes of movement, transformation, and cross-cultural exchange found throughout the Alma Latina program. The butterflies and garlands will be installed in the concert space on February 22, so the room itself reflects the presence and care of the community gathered around the music.
The focus of this workshop is allyship and visibility.
For immigrant participants, it offers a welcoming space to feel seen and valued.
For non-immigrant allies, it provides a concrete way to show care and solidarity through participation.
No art experience is required. All ages are welcome.
Workshop participants will receive one free ticket to Alma Latina and a discount code for up to three additional tickets at $10 each.
Accessibility:
This is a low-pressure, welcoming workshop. Seating will be available, materials are lightweight and flexible, and participants may engage at their own pace. If you have access needs or questions, please reach out in advance.
