Imagine an entire school – students, teachers, and administrators – taking time each morning to turn inward together, and listen to a brief mindfulness prompt and world-class music.
The Well's programs combine best practices in arts and wellness and are designed in partnership with those they serve. How do we create our programs? In partnership with others and especially those we serve.

My True SELF is a dynamic, adaptable curriculum and program created to support the social-emotional learning needs of all students and the adults who support them.
Utilizing the My True SELF curriculum allows students, educators, and community members to gain the knowledge and tools they need to develop greater capacity for self-awareness and self-management, social and relational interactions, and improved decision making that benefits society as a whole.
My True SELF fortifies educational excellence by creating a learning environment rich with meaningful, trusting relationships and co-regulatory connections that are supportive of the wellness and well-being of all members of the schooltime or out of school time program community. With intentional, consistent implementation, positive trends in emotional regulation, attentional control, self-awareness, and teamwork are exhibited.
The experientially-based program invites participants to engage in a co-creative learning atmosphere enriched with mindfulness, movement, healing arts and expressive arts practices. Parent and community partner involvement is encouraged so as to expand the reach of the curriculum and to support the shift of the entire community toward the acquisition, development, and real-life integration of social-emotional skills in support of wellness and well-being.
The CASEL™-aligned My True SELF curriculum is an off-shoot of the True Body Project, the award-winning, trauma-informed program introduced by The Well in 2005. The curriculum focus areas are supported and enhanced through the integration of mindfulness, movement, and healing and expressive arts practices into the schooltime or out of school time learning environment.
The inclusion of these experiential learning practices are backed by scientific research and reflect findings that mind-body-based practices support brain development and neurophysiological regulation of the body which is needed to counter the negative effects of chronic stress and trauma on the body and mind.
This adaptable, culturally-sensitive program considers the whole-student, whole-classroom, and whole-school perspective, and focuses on explicit social-emotional skill instruction as well as academic and community integration. This curriculum can be utilized universally, in small groups, or in one-on-one interactions which allows for the flexibility and specificity required to meet the individual needs of each student. Included in the My True SELF curriculum is the use of the Individual Regulation Plan which helps to communicate the neuroregulatory needs of the student and the creation of a plan to support them.
My True SELF is for schools and out of school time programs that are ready and willing to invest the time and energy required to create a culture and climate that supports the wellness and well-being of the students and the adults who support them. These champions understand that the capacity to learn and integrate knowledge as well as the capacity to teach and hold space for learning requires a holistic perspective that reaches beyond the pages of a textbook.
My True SELF is for those who understand and value the science that shows that mindfulness, movement, and expressive arts practices correlate with brain development and the regulation of the nervous system. They understand how those results lead to better outcomes for all parties in and outside of the classroom.
There are several ways that you will be able to engage with My True SELF based on your school or program’s needs and budget. Contact The Well so that we can plan a unique structure for our partnership that best suits your needs and capacity.
