Imagine an entire school – students, teachers, and administrators – taking time each morning to turn inward together, and listen to a brief mindfulness prompt and world-class music.
The Well's programs combine best practices in arts and wellness and are designed in partnership with those they serve.
Patrick Raneses leading discussion on Mary Oliver's poem "Wild Geese."
This month, The Well team—Bryce Kessler, Charli Littleton, and Patrick Raneses—brought Mindful Poetry Moments to 80 fifth-grade students at Wilson Elementary School in Cincinnati, OH. The visit began with a guided meditation followed by a reading of Mary Oliver’s beloved poem "Wild Geese," sparking discussion around themes of self-acceptance and connection to nature.
Inspired by Oliver’s words, students were then encouraged to write their own reflective poems, many of which touched on deep emotions, friendships, and their love for the natural world. Several young poets shared their work aloud, creating a moving and memorable experience for their classmates.
The visit came at the perfect time, aligning with the school's ongoing poetry curriculum and a scheduled poetry slam later that day. Even more exciting, these students now have the chance to be featured in The Well’s 6th annual poetry book, set to be released in August.
