Imagine an entire school – students, teachers, and administrators – taking time each morning to turn inward together, and listen to a brief mindfulness prompt and world-class music.
The Well's programs combine best practices in arts and wellness and are designed in partnership with those they serve. How do we create our programs? In partnership with others and especially those we serve.

A portal to new ideas and new poetry.
Thank you to all who attended our Mindful Poetry Gathering! We listened and contemplated the poem "Because I Sit Here So" by Laura Riding Jackson. Special guest Amy Tuttle opened our session with a meditation focusing on being present, and educator, reader, and long-time Mindful Poet, Wade Hopkins facilitated our exploration of the poem.
Writing Prompt: Beginning with the line "Because I sit here so...", Reflect on the paradox of individuality and universality, where despite our unique circumstances, we are bound together by shared experiences. Reflect on the intersection of spirituality, language, and human consciousness in the quest for a deeper understanding of existence. OR follow your muse!

Untitled
by Sarah Pinho
We are so different.
But because I sit here so,
mind resolutely curious,
I just ask why.
So you joined the NRA
Why?
You're afraid they'll take your guns
Why?
You want to teach your girl to shoot
Why?
You want to repeat your childhood
Why?
Your best memories are shooting with your dad
Why?
He validated you and was present
Why?
Presence brings connection
Why?
I want my daughter to feel I'm present
We are the same.

Do you blame me
for contemplating the unknowable?
For not burning witches or
wandering away muttering madly?
Do you blame me for being here now?
Gravity
by Steven Barragán Naranjo
Because I sit here so
I pull the earth to me
Knowing she pulls back just as much
As I need
Gravedad
de Steven Barragán Naranjo
Porque así me siento aquí
Jalo a la tierra hacia mi
Sabiendo que ella me jala también
Tanto como lo necesito
Sitting Lonely
by K.G. Munro
I sit here, so I sit alone,
In my still space of plentiful shadows
I think here, about tomorrow,
Where the buttercup-colored sunlight will take me,
If I will or will not be flooded by rain and its blue tinges
I feel the hardwood chestnut floor,
Against my bony knees that are scraped,
By the blows that life doles out daily
I smell the lingering sweet vanilla of a sleeping candle
Wishing that my mind was as bright as its wick had been
I listen to my heart, it gently taps my soul,
Like a black bird tapping at a window
Thud! Thud!
A reminder that I’m still alive and hoping
I pray that my isolation fades
Like these intrusive thoughts, may it be temporary
As I dream that my life will be filled
By loving people who keep me
Anything but still.
