Return to School Week!

Cincinnati, OH — It’s “Return to School Week,” a time of new beginnings as families adjust from the holiday season to the structure of school schedules. While the shift can be challenging, The Well, a Cincinnati-based nonprofit, invites schools, students, and families to “Begin Again” with its innovative Mindful Music Moments program.

This nationally recognized program provides a moment of calm and focus to over 100,000 students in 300+ schools each day, combining mindfulness prompts with world-class music. The Well provides free arts and mindfulness resources that are proven to positively impact youth mental health — a critical need as headlines consistently highlight the national youth mental health crisis.

Schools are facing challenges as they balance academic expectations with the emotional and mental well-being of their students,” says Stacy Sims, Founder and Executive Director of The Well. “That’s where Mindful Music Moments comes in — a program accessible to both inner-city scholars and suburban classrooms, creating space for calm, connection, and learning in just four minutes a day.

Stacy Sims, a thought leader in arts, mindfulness, and education, plays a pivotal role in bringing Mindful Music Moments to life in schools. Her expertise is often showcased during on-camera interviews conducted directly in classrooms, capturing the real-time impact of the program on students. By facilitating these in-school experiences, Sims helps highlight the transformative power of mindfulness and music, offering a unique perspective on how these practices enhance student well-being and focus. This approach not only underscores the program's success but also invites media to witness firsthand the positive changes occurring in educational settings.

Why Mindful Music Moments?

Developed in partnership with Cincinnati schools to help students transition into their day, the program includes daily mindfulness prompts paired with orchestral music, helping participants develop skills for focus, emotional regulation, and stress relief. Offered in both English and Spanish and available in audio or video formats, Mindful Music Moments is designed to be inclusive for all learners and learning environments.

Participating schools also receive additional resources such as weekly printable activities, professional development for educators on youth brain development, and access to companion programs, like Mindful Poetry Moments during National Poetry Month.

Begin Again with The Well

Since 2005, The Well has inspired and connected communities through creative mindfulness practices, offering a fresh start each year. As students and families embrace the New Year and return to school, programs like Mindful Music Moments provide an accessible and impactful way to integrate health and arts into daily routines. This approach not only supports New Year's resolutions for improved well-being but also fosters a sense of renewal and readiness for the challenges and opportunities of the school year.

As soon as I turn on [Mindful Music], students know to settle into their seats and stop conversations. This is so much better than me trying to get their attention to start class. Sometimes they need a bit of incentive to settle, but once they do they really buy into it. When I ask for feedback from my students many of them find it an important part of their day and many say they didn't like it at first but the more we did it the more they liked it.

Incorporating [Mindful Music Moments] into our routine gave us the opportunity to MAKE TIME to be mindful. We learned how to be mindful through the music and breathing techniques.
