Imagine an entire school – students, teachers, and administrators – taking time each morning to turn inward together, and listen to a brief mindfulness prompt and world-class music.
The Well's programs combine best practices in arts and wellness and are designed in partnership with those they serve.
Create small assemblages with found materials, exploring and honoring memory
Inspired by: artist Aminah Robinson’s use of buttons, sticks, beads, found objects, and “hogmawg” techniques
Focus: Tending memory + honoring the sparks that shaped us
We will create a small assemblage using found materials—buttons, twine, fabric knots, handwritten notes,
small keepsakes—arranged on a sturdy backing. A brief reflection invites us to identify a memory, ancestor,
or life event that acts as an inner spark. We then assemble these materials into a symbolic “memory flame”:
a piece that honors what lights us up or protects our warmth. The tactile making echoes Robinson’s belief
that everyday objects hold deep story and spiritual resonance.
No prior art or writing experience is needed—just bring curiosity and a meaningful memory, ancestor, or life event to work from. Leave with a a meaningful mixed-media assemblage that honors the sparks of memory, ancestry, and personal history.
Thursday, February 19th — 6:00-8:00pm
